The Owensboro Ballroom Dance Club was formed in 1992 by a group of ballroom dance enthusiasts. The club’s main functions are to promote social ballroom dancing in Owensboro, KY, to provide information about dance lessons, and to encourage a healthy lifestyle through dance exercise.
The OBRDC has 10 dances a year and each dance is decorated according to a theme, such as the 50’s Sock Hop, the Hawaiian Luau Dance, the Christmas Ball, etc.
Music is provided at most dances by a disc jockey (DJ). Dances include the waltz, fox trot, cha cha, rumba, swing, mambo, samba, tango, polka, and more. Some line dances such as the Electric Slide, the Cupid Shuffle, and Swamp Thing are enjoyed by all.
